Solo Range

The 'Solo' range of integrated, tough and durable tools offers unparalleled cost and time savings over other ways to functionally test smoke and heat detectors.

Solo products offer a 'Professional Best Practice' solution to the requirements of BS5839.

Solo tools are unique because they are completely interchangeable with one another. Each tool can be fitted to any of the poles within the range, to perform a service operation at any height from 1m to 9m. This offers Fire Installers and Alarm Contractors a high quality 'Service Solution' capable of rapidly repaying the investment in equipment, sometimes in just a few weeks, when compared to other less professional approaches.

WHY IS DETECTOR TESTING REQUIRED?

BS 5839 PT1 2002 and your insurance company insist on it! Codes and standards throughout the world define the testing and maintenance requirements of fire detection systems. Detection devices are tested not only to prove their own operational status but also to check the entire system integrity.

BS5839 pt1 2002 requires a functional test, which introduces smoke, or simulated smoke into the detection chamber or heat onto the sensing element. This ensures that the detector is able to operate in the event of a real incident. Other methods of testing (such as magnets) are no longer acceptable.

Our No Climb range makes this task far easier and more cost effective and ensures correct testing for your detection devices.

SMOKE DETECTOR TESTING

The use of a properly designed smoke dispenser, designed to release a controlled and measured amount of a recognised and approved synthetic smoke aerosol, is the industry standard test protocol for the efficient and safe activation of smoke detectors.

HEAT DETECTOR TESTING

British Standards now requires that all heat detectors be tested regularly by the correct application of a suitable heat source. This is now included in the new BS5839-1:2002 as follows:

"Every heat detector should be functionally tested by means of a suitable heat source... The heat source should not have the potential to ignite a fire; live flame should not be used..." (Clause 45.4 c)

FUNCTIONAL TESTING

BS5839 stipulates that 'functional' testing of ALL detectors, forming part of a fire detection installation, MUST be carried out to a pre-determined, minimum frequency and that such testing must be performed in a safe and controlled manner.

"Point smoke detectors should be functionally tested by a method that confirms smoke can enter the detector chamber and produce a fire signal (eg. by use of apparatus that generates simulated smoke or suitable aerosols around the detector)." (Clause 45.4.d)

SAFE WORKING AT HEIGHT DIRECTIVE

The core element of the Solo Tool Range is the Telescopic Pole, which facilitates accessibility to detectors installed at height, with complete safety. This means that, when using Solo equipment, an alarm technician is complying fully with the Safe Working at Height Directive, as he is able to perform the service operations with both feet firmly on the ground!
